In this long-awaited autobiography, the legendary Bill Elliott details his childhood in rural North Georgia, building cars from scratch, struggling on the anonymous small-time tracks of the South to his against-the-odds rise to the pinnacle of NASCAR stardom: Winston Cup Champion. From Daytona to Talladega, from Bristol to Sonoma, ride shoulder to shoulder with Elliott as he battles Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip, Ricky Rudd, Rusty Wallace, and Alan Kulwicki for NASCAR's ultimate prize. Through Elliott's eyes we meet the colorful cast of old-school characters who built NASCAR: Cale Yarborough, Junior Johnson, the Allisons, Carl Kiekhaefer, and, of course, the France family. We join Bill in the car (and under it) as he sets the all-time record for the fastest official speed ever recorded in a stock car (a record he still holds today). Elliott also shares his thoughts on the dark side of the racing life: the stresses it can place on relationships, the ever-present physical risks, and the weight of fame. He addresses the racing-related deaths of competitors and friends. He is candid and critical in discussing the intense rivalry between him and the late Dale Earnhardt, and he sheds new light on their storied relationship as well as on Earnhardt's shocking death. Elliott discusses the future of NASCAR with critiques of its management and restrictor plates, and he takes on the controversial issues of track and driver safety. A window into the compelling personality of Bill Elliott, as well as a primer on the ascent of America's fastestgrowing sport, this is the definitive insider's view of the rising NASCAR nation.

Babe Ruth League, Inc. is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to developing better citizens by providing properly supervised baseball competition for players 4 through 18 years of age. Established in 1951 and incorporated in 1952, there are now over 59,000 teams competing in over 10,500 leagues in the United States and Canada. Unquestionably, one of the primary reasons for the success of this organization is the rules and regulations which have been established through democratic procedures, with the guidance of professional recreation directors, high school athletic authorities and college coaches. The foundation of the organization is Babe Ruth Baseball (13-15 year olds) playing on a regulation baseball diamond. Selection of this age grouping on the regulation-size infield was made originally after studies among professional youth authorities indicated favor for this basic concept. Our totally favorable experience the past 56 seasons, in which thousands of Babe Ruth League teams have played, clearly endorses this decision. The physiological development of 13-15 year old junior high and high school students dictates the use of the regulation diamond under slightly modified regulation baseball rules. Younger players rapidly adjust to the larger diamond with the assurance no further adjustment in throwing, pitching, etc., will ever be needed in progressing to older age teams.

Steve Menzies has played more games at the top level of Australian rugby league, and scored more tries, than any other forward in history. He is second on the all-time appearance list, within striking distance of the record. Through 16 years at the coalface he has been an exemplary performer; talented and committed on the field, respectful and respected off it. This book tells the story not just of Steve ‘The Beaver' Menzies, but of the tumultuous period in the game that has seen enormous change. When Beaver started as a teenager back in 1993, it was a simpler game with a more relaxed culture. With the arrival of Super League, big money, suffocating media scrutiny and diminishing club loyalty, rugby league became in many ways a different game altogether. This book paints the story of Steve Menzies' journey through that change. Of his adaptability and his loyalty to one club. Team mates from Hasler and Toovey to Orofrd and Kennedy, opponents from Fittler and Clyde to Johns and Lockyer. ‘The Beaver' has played with and against the best over two decades. And his partnership with mercurial Cliffy Lyons was legendary. This is a story of not just matches won and lost, but a picture of the future of a game that has occupied all of Menzies' adult life.
